A joint team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police launched an operation at Kamu area in Thoubal district and have seized nearly 72 kg of brown sugar on Wednesday. The search was based on intelligence inputs about a large consignment of drugs hidden in the area awaiting distribution to various parts of the country, multiple teams were deployed on the intervening night of November 10 and 11. One of the teams seized three bags containing brown sugar in the early hours of November 11. The market value of the narcotics recovered was assessed to be over Rs 287 crore, police said. Earlier, on October 30, police had seized 435.945 kg of suspected brown sugar, 438 litres of morphinated liquid and other items from Thobal Moijing Awang Leikai area in Thoubal district. On October 22, Thoubal district police had also busted an illegal drugs factory and recovered around 41 kg of brown sugar worth Rs 164 crore at Lilong area in the district. -PTC News
