New Delhi, June 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condemned the "barbaric'' terrorist attack on the Karte Parwan Gurdwara in Kabul on Saturday. Several blasts were reported near the gurdwara, in the latest targeted attack on a place of worship of a minority community in the Taliban-ruled Afghanistan. As per the local media, at least two blasts were reported near the Gurdwara in Kabul's Karte Parwan area on Saturday morning. Reports said that the explosions and gunfire at Gurdwara claimed two lives. The authorities further informed that no group has claimed responsibility for the incident. "Shocked by the cowardly terrorist attack against the Karte Parwan Gurdwara in Kabul. I condemn this barbaric attack, and pray for the safety and well-being of the devotees," the Prime Minister said on Twitter. Also Read | Neeraj Chopra wins season’s first gold in Finland; escapes injury after nasty fall The attackers attempted to strike the gurdwara with an explosives-laden car, but it was halted before it could reach the shrine, according to a spokesman for the Taliban's interior ministry. According to the statement, an Afghan Sikh and a Taliban fighter were killed in the attack, and all of the attackers were killed. “The cowardly attack on Gurdwara Karte Parwan should be condemned in the strongest terms by all. We have been closely monitoring developments since the news of the attack was received. Our first and foremost concern is for the welfare of the community,” EAM S Jaishankar tweeted. Earlier on Saturday, the External affairs ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said: “We are deeply concerned at the reports emanating from Kabul about an attack on a sacred gurdwara in that city.” He further said that the Indian side is closely monitoring the situation.
