Parliament Monsoon Session: Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan claims 'success' against coronavirus

In his first address to the Parliament since the COVID-19 outbreak, Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan on Monday stated that India is having one of the lowest cases and deaths per million population across the world. The Union Health Minister confirmed that around 13 states in the country are reporting the highest number of coronavirus cases on a daily basis. While addressing the Lok Sabha during the Monsoon session of the Parliament, Dr Harsh Vardhan said, "Maximum cases & deaths primarily reported from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, UP, Delhi, West Bengal, Bihar, Telangana, Odisha, Assam, Kerala and Gujarat. All these reported more than 1 Lakh cases." "With our endeavour to manage COVID-19, India has been able to limit its cases and deaths per million to 3,328 cases per million and 55 deaths per million population respectively, which is one of the lowest in the world as compared to similarly affected countries," he added. The Union Health Minister's address comes on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament. The Monsoon session will take place every day for 18 days. The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will function for four hours each during the monsoon session. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday stated that "77,512 recoveries have been registered in the last 24 hours in India thus taking the total number of recoveries to 37,80,107 and recovery rate to 78 percent." "More than 60 percent of active cases in India are from 5 States that include Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu," it added.

Coronavirus cases near 50 lakh cases in India

India on Monday reported more than 90,000 coronavirus cases for the 5th consecutive day. India's COVID-19 case tally crossed 48 lakh-mark with a spike of 92,071 new cases and 1,136 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
