No SpiceJet flights to Sikkim from October 30; bad weather to blame

Gangtok, October 21: Amid bad weather and low visibility, SpiceJet has announced to suspend operations in the hill state from October 30. SpiceJet is the only carrier which runs daily flights to and from the greenfield airport in Sikkim’s Pakyong. According to a spokesperson of the airline, bad weather and low visibility were to blame for the suspension of the operations. Also Read | Researchers at Boston University 'develop' new Covid strain with 80% death rate The spokesperson added SpiceJet flights to and from Pakyong airport had been temporarily suspended from October 30, 2022, due to operational constraints amid bad weather condition and low visibility at Pakyong. “Pakyong is a VFR (Visual Flight Rules) airport and does not have instrument landing facilities… To avoid inconvenience to our passengers, flight operations have been temporarily suspended. We will share an update once the services resume,” the spokesperson said. A notice in this regard has been put up at the reception and the ticket counter of the airport. The airline currently operates daily direct flights to Delhi and Kolkata.
