YouTube premium plan increases: Family plan fee surges over 50%
The monthly cost of the individual plan has increased to Rs 149 from Rs 129, representing a 15.5 per cent rise.
PTC News Desk: YouTube has announced a significant price increase for its Premium subscriptions in India, with hikes ranging from 12 per cent to 58 per cent across all plans. This is the first price adjustment since the launch of YouTube Premium in the country in 2019.
YouTube Premium offers subscribers an ad-free experience, background video playback, and offline video downloads. In a communication to subscribers, YouTube explained that the price increase is necessary to "continue delivering great service and features."
The company stated, “We don't make these decisions lightly, and this update will allow us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.”
Updated Pricing for YouTube Premium Plans
- Individual Plan: The cost has risen to Rs 149 per month, marking a 15.5 per cent increase from the previous rate of Rs 129 per month.
- Student Plan: The new price is Rs 89 per month, up 12.7 per cent from Rs 79 per month.
- Family Plan: This plan saw the highest increase, now priced at Rs 299 per month, which is a 58.2 per cent rise from the earlier rate of Rs 189 per month.
Changes to YouTube Music Pricing
YouTube has also raised prices for its music streaming service, YouTube Music. The individual plan now costs Rs 119 per month, up from Rs 99 per month.
