PTC News Desk: In yet another incident of violence against women in strife-torn Manipur, a woman was allegedly shot and burnt to death by militants during an attack at a Hmar tribal village in Manipur’s Jirbam district.

The police has not recovered woman's body yet as it was taken by Jiribam’s civil society organisations. Security forces and forensic experts have been deployed at the cite of incident. At least six houses were also torched and residents of the village attacked by the armed militants, the police said. “Preliminary reports suggested that several villagers managed to flee during the attack and took shelter in a nearby forest. At least six houses were severely damaged due to the arson. An investigation is underway,” a senior officer said.

Various tribal organisations including the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) and the Hmar Inpui have criticised the attack and accused Arambai Tenggol, a Meitei activist for conspiring the attack.

Meanwhile, the Jirbam Superintendent of Police has sought permission from District magistrate for conducting postmortem of the woman in the neighbouring Assam’s Silchar Medical College as Jiribam does not have proper forensic facilities.
