Lucknow, June 27: In a significant development, a wanted criminal named Gufran was shot dead during an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Police in Kaushambi district earlier today. Gufran, who was wanted in multiple cases of murder and dacoity, met his fate during the operation.

According to officials from the UP Police, the incident took place at around 5:00 am when a special task force team was conducting a raid in Kaushambi district. Gufran, who had a long list of charges against him including murder, attempted murder, and robbery in Pratapgarh and other districts of Uttar Pradesh, was confronted by the team. In a bid to evade arrest, Gufran opened fire at the police officers.

In response, the law enforcement personnel retaliated, resulting in a crossfire during which Gufran sustained gunshot injuries. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save his life, Gufran succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The deceased criminal had been evading arrest in more than 13 cases, which included serious offenses like murder, attempted murder, and robbery. The Uttar Pradesh Police had placed a bounty of Rs 1,00,000 for information leading to his capture, highlighting the significant threat he posed to public safety.

This encounter marks the latest in a series of such incidents involving the UP Police and criminals. Since Yogi Adityanath assumed the position of Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2017, there have been over 10,900 encounters, resulting in the deaths of more than 185 criminals. The state government has consistently taken a tough stance on criminal activities, emphasising the need for public safety and maintaining law and order.

The encounter with Gufran underscores the ongoing efforts of the Uttar Pradesh Police to combat crime and ensure the safety of its citizens. However, such incidents also raise concerns about the use of force and the need for a comprehensive approach to address the root causes of criminal behavior. The state government continues to face criticism and calls for a balanced strategy that not only focuses on punitive measures but also emphasizes rehabilitation and social initiatives to reduce crime rates in the long term.

As investigations into Gufran's criminal activities continue, the encounter serves as a reminder of the constant vigilance required by law enforcement agencies to maintain public security and uphold the rule of law.
