Uttarakhand rains: 52 people rescued after bridge collapses in Rudraprayag
Uttarakhand rains: As many as 52 people who were stranded after a bridge collapsed in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag, were rescued on Tuesday, officials informed.
According to the State Disaster Response Force, the bridge in Goundar village washed away due to heavy rainfall in the Madmaheshwar valley, leaving several people trapped.
The SDRF rescue squad arrived quickly and found that persons on the other side of the bridge were stranded.
However, because of the high water level in the river, the rescue operation could not begin immediately.
"It was not possible to cross the river due to the high water level of the river. As per the instructions of the Commandant, the team remained at the spot," an official added.
"The SDRF team resumed the rescue operation, rescuing 52 people trapped there and transporting them to a safer location," he added.
