Uttar Pradesh: Domestic help held in Ghaziabad for mixing urine in dough for chapatis; incident sparks outrage
The incident was exposed when the employer recorded Reena urinating in a utensil and then blending it with the flour dough
PTC Web Desk: A 32-year-old domestic help, identified as Reena, was arrested in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday after she allegedly mixed urine into flour dough used to prepare chapatis (flatbread) for her employers. The arrest followed a complaint by one of her employers, who reportedly caught the act on video.
The incident was exposed when the employer recorded Reena urinating in a utensil and then blending it with the flour dough. The video has since gone viral on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), prompting public calls for strict legal action against her.
During police questioning, Reena confessed to the act, explaining that she was upset with her employer's constant supervision and frequent scolding for minor mistakes. As an act of revenge, she admitted to contaminating the dough multiple times. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and are investigating whether Reena has any past criminal record.
This incident follows another similar case last month when a juice vendor, Aamir Khan, was arrested in Ghaziabad for allegedly serving juices mixed with urine. The Uttar Pradesh government is now drafting new ordinances aimed at preventing such acts. These include penalties for contaminating food with human waste, potential prison sentences of up to 10 years for spitting on food, and requirements for eateries to display detailed information about owners and staff.
