UNGA president: Delighted to arrive in New Delhi when India celebrating 'second Diwali'

New Delhi, January 22: United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) president Dennis Francis expressed his joy upon arriving in New Delhi on Monday, coinciding with the momentous Pran Pratishtha ceremony of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya. During this visit, the UNGA president aims to engage in discussions about peace, progress and prosperity in India.

Addressing the media, Dennis Francis conveyed his delight, stating, "Delighted to arrive in New Delhi on an auspicious day when the country is celebrating its 'Second Diwali.' Looking forward to fruitful discussions over the next few days on peace, progress, prosperity, and sustainability." This visit underscores the significance of India's cultural and spiritual celebrations on the global stage.

Upon his arrival, the UNGA president was warmly received by India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ruchira Kamboj. This five-day visit is aimed at advancing India-UN ties, emphasising collaboration on key multilateral issues. The theme of President Francis's UNGA presidency, "Rebuilding trust and reigniting solidarity," aligns with the discussions planned with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

Inclusive Agenda and Cultural Engagements

President Francis's agenda includes paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat and participating in a round table on India's advancements in Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). A public address at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) on "Multilateralism and Peace, Prosperity, Progress, and Sustainability" is also on the itinerary.

Strategic Travel Itinerary

The UNGA President will extend his visit beyond New Delhi, traveling to Jaipur and Mumbai. In Mumbai, he will pay respects at the 26/11 memorial, visit the National Stock Exchange, and address a session on New Orientation for Reformed Multilateralism organized by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF).

Republic Day Participation

As the visit coincides with Republic Day 2024, President Francis will participate as a state guest in the Republic Day Parade of Maharashtra on January 26. This aspect highlights the diplomatic significance of the trip, fostering stronger ties between the UNGA President and India.

Historic Ayodhya Ceremony

Simultaneously, Ayodhya is witnessing the historic Pran Pratishtha ceremony, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are in attendance. Over 8,000 guests, including representatives from various spiritual and religious sects, are witnessing the ritual, enhancing the cultural richness of the event.

Symbol of Unity and Tradition

The Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Mandir, where the ceremony is taking place, is constructed in traditional Nagara style, showcasing intricate sculptures and depictions of Hindu deities. The entire complex reflects India's traditional and indigenous technology, emphasizing unity and cultural heritage.
