Tragic love story: Assams Golaghat rocked by gruesome triple murder during Covid Lockdown

Chandigarh, July 26: A gruesome triple murder in Golaghat town, Assam, left the community in shock as a man allegedly killed his wife, father-in-law, and mother-in-law on Monday afternoon.

The accused, identified as Nazibur Rahman, surrendered to the police and confessed to the crime, as reported by Golaghat SP Pushkin Jain. The victims were Sanjib Ghosh, Junu Ghosh, and Sanghamitra Ghosh. The tragic events unfolded at Hindi School road in Goalghat town.

The story traces back to June 2020 when Nazibur, a mechanical engineer, and Sanghamitra connected on Facebook during the Covid lockdown. They fell in love, and in October of the same year, they eloped to Kolkata, getting married in a court there.

However, Sanghamitra's parents managed to bring her back home, but she had already tied the knot with Nazibur. Her parents later filed a police complaint, accusing her of theft, resulting in Sanghamitra's arrest and over a month in judicial custody. After securing bail, she returned to her parents' home.

In January 2022, the couple eloped again, this time to Chennai, where they lived for five months. They returned to Golaghat in August, with Sanghamitra pregnant. They settled in Nazibur's home and had a son in November.

In March this year, Sanghamitra went to her parents' home with her son, alleging that Nazibur had been subjecting her to torture. A police complaint was lodged against him for attempted murder, leading to Nazibur's arrest. He was later released on bail after 28 days.

The situation escalated further as Sanghamitra's family prevented Nazibur from meeting his child. On April 29, Nazibur's brother filed a police complaint, accusing Sanghamitra and her family of assaulting him.

On Monday afternoon, the tragic turn of events unfolded when Nazibur allegedly murdered his wife and her parents. He then fled with his nine-month-old baby but later surrendered to the police. The incident has left the community in shock and sorrow.
