Gujarat boat tragedy claims lives: 12 students, 2 teachers on picnic perish

PTC News Desk: In a devastating incident, a boat carrying 27 students from a private school capsized in Harni Lake, Vadodara, Gujarat, resulting in the loss of 12 children and two teachers. Shockingly, none of the passengers were reportedly wearing life jackets.

The unfortunate event prompted an immediate response from the fire brigade, launching a search operation to rescue the missing students. Vadodara's chief fire officer, Parth Brahmbhatt, informed PTI that the boat, transporting students on a picnic, overturned in Harni Lake during the afternoon. As of now, seven students have been rescued, while efforts continue to locate the remaining ones.

Expressing condolences, State Health Minister Rushikesh Patel stated, "This is a very sad incident. Condolences to the families of those who have died. Action will be taken against those responsible for this incident."

The tragedy highlights the critical need for stringent safety measures during such outings, prompting authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and hold those accountable for the lapse in safety protocols.
