PTC News Desk: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) declared on Tuesday that it would back Congressman K Suresh, the nominee for the Lok Sabha Speaker position in Parliament, who is supported by the Opposition-led INDIA alliance. The side lead by Mamata Banerjee emerged a day after the Bengali ruling party declared they had not been "consulted" by the Congress prior to announcing K Suresh as the candidate.

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, spoke with Mamata Banerjee over the phone for twenty minutes before the Trinamool Congress backed her. In person, the Congress MP spoke with TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee in Parliament after being selected as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha on Monday.

The Congress made a "unilateral" decision to support K Suresh in his candidacy, according to the TMC, which reminded the established party that any decisions pertaining to the INDIA bloc must be taken with all members informed.

Derek O' Brien and Kalyan Banerjee, who represent the TMC, met with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday night. After that, this morning at the Old Parliament building in Delhi, Derek O' Brien, Kalyan Banerjee, Sudip Bandhopadhyay, and Abhishek Banerjee had an internal meeting of the TMC.
