Three Lashkar-e-Taiba terror associates held for grenade attack in Srinagar
The attack, which targeted security forces, was reportedly orchestrated by Pakistan-based handlers aiming to destabilise the region
PTC Web Desk: Three terror associates linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were arrested on Friday in connection with a grenade attack in Srinagar that targeted security forces and left 12 civilians injured. The attack took place on Sunday when grenades were thrown at a weekly flea market, with the intention of hitting security personnel stationed in the area. However, the grenades exploded near a paramilitary vehicle, injuring the civilians.
The arrested have been identified as Usama Yasin Sheikh, Umar Fayaz Sheikh, and Afnan Mansoor Sheikh, all residents of the Ikhrajpora area in Srinagar. According to Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Zone) V K Birdi, the police successfully solved the case with the arrests, and the attack was carried out under the direction of Pakistan-based terror handlers, who aimed to disrupt peace and stability in the region. A case has been registered against the three under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The grenade attack occurred against the backdrop of ongoing terror activities and encounters in Jammu and Kashmir following the formation of the region's first elected government since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019.
In response to the attack, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha urged security forces to take a strong stand against terror outfits, saying, “You have full freedom to crush terror outfits and leave no stone unturned to complete this mission.”
