President Murmu on Independence Day Eve: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday addressed the nation on the eve of the 77th Independence Day. The address was broadcasted on the entire national network of Akashvani and telecasted on all Doordarshan channels.

Addressing the nation, the President said that "Independence Day reminds us that we are not just individuals, but members of a large and vibrant community. It is a community of the citizens of the world's largest democracy."

“On Independence Day, we celebrate the fact that we are citizens of a great democracy. Each of us has many identities – apart from caste, creed, language and region, we are also identified with our families and professions – but there is one identity that is above all. That is our identity as citizens of India. Each one of us is an equal citizen; each one of us has an equal opportunity, equal rights and equal duties, in this land," the President of India added.

‘India's G20 presidency is an opportunity to impact global discourse’

During her address to the country, President Droupadi further added that India's G20 presidency is an opportunity to impact global discourse.

“"With the G-20 presidency, India can nudge trade and finance decision-making toward more equitable progress. Aside from trade and finance, human development is also on the agenda. Many global challenges affect all of humanity and are not confined by geographical limits.”

"I am confident that member-nations will be able to advance effective action on these fronts with India's proven leadership in dealing with global issues," the President added.

'Women contributing extensively in every field'

"Women are contributing extensively in every field of development and service to the country, increasing national pride. Today, our women have carved out a special place in numerous professions where their participation could not have been anticipated even a few decades ago."

'ISRO made all of us proud'

"The aspirations of the new India have infinite dimensions. The Indian Space Research Organisation continues to reach new heights and set higher standards of excellence. ISRO launched Chandrayaan-3 this year, and its lander named 'Vikram' and rover named 'Pragyan' are set to touchdown on the moon in the coming days. It will be an honour for all of us, and I am looking forward to it. However, the moon journey is merely a stepping stone for our future space efforts. We have to go far ahead.”
