Tamil Nadu factory blast: 8 dead in explosion at fireworks factory

PTC Web Desk: In a tragic incident, eight persons were killed in a blast at a fireworks factory near Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu, on Thursday evening. As per information, the fireworks manufacturing unit is located near Sivakasi, which is  widely known as the fireworks hub of India.

As soon as the explosion was reported, police and fire service personnel reached the spot and started rescue operations. The injured were immediately taken to the government hospital. A senior police official said the condition of one of the injured was critical. He said the cause of the fire was still unknown. 

It is learnt that as many as 10 workers were inside the firecracker manufacturing when the explosion took place.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has conveyed condolences to the families and kin the deceased. He said compensation would be extended with the approval of the Election Commission.

“I have immediately contacted the District Collector of Virudhunagar and instructed them to carry out the rescue operations as soon as possible and have also directed to ensure that the injured get proper treatment,” he posted on X.

Notably, several such mishaps have been reported in Sivakasi, he fireworks hub of India, over the years.
