Tamil Nadu couple's tomato heist: Faking accident to hijack lorry in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, July 23: A couple from Vellore, Tamil Nadu, was arrested for their involvement in a tomato heist after faking an accident to extort money. The couple, part of a highway robbery gang, intercepted a truck belonging to Mallesh from Hiriyur in Chitradurga district on July 8, claiming that his vehicle had collided with their car.
When Mallesh refused to pay compensation, the gang assaulted him and forced him out of the truck, stealing the vehicle loaded with 2.5 tonnes of tomatoes worth over 2.5 lakhs on the same day.
Following a complaint by Mallesh, the RMC Yard police took action and tracked the movement of the stolen truck, ultimately apprehending the couple involved in the crime. Bhaskar, 28, and his wife Sindhuja, 26, were arrested on Saturday, while three other members of the gang are still at large.
The incident occurred when Mallesh was transporting tomatoes to Kolar and was waylaid by the gang in Bengaluru.
