Tamil Nadu Budget session: BJP, AIADMK walkout; call budget mere eyewash

PTC News Desk: The BJP and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) staged a walkout from the Tamil Nadu Assembly during the state Budget 2025-26 presentation, protesting against the DMK government’s move to replace the rupee symbol and alleged corruption in Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC).

The confrontations highlight the rapidly escalating tension between the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the opposition parties—the BJP and AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam)—as next year’s Assembly election approaches. This election will serve as a major test of the BJP’s popularity in a state that has traditionally opposed its strong nationalist agenda in favor of the Dravidian political narrative.

The BJP's state unit boss, K Annamalai said, "Our four MLAs, walked out for a simple reason - which is, the whole budget is an eye-washing exercise. There is nothing productive about it. And also, the Tamil Nadu government has yet to learn lessons from yesterday."

AIADMK MLAs tried to raise concerns about allegations from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding a Rs 1,000 crore scam in TASMAC liquor sales but were not given permission. As a result, they, along with the BJP, walked out of the session. Later, Tamil Nadu Speaker M Appavu announced that discussions on the ED allegations would be permitted on Monday
