NEET-UG paper leak case: A three-judge bench, consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala, and Manoj Misra delivered an extensive verdict justifying the decision not to hold a re-test of the NEET UG 2024 examination.

The Supreme Court of India  says there was no systemic breach of the NEET-UG 2024 papers, the leak was only limited to Patna and Hazaribagh.

Supreme Court says that in it’s judgement it has highlighted all the deficiences in the structural processes of the NTAs. We cannot afford this for the betterment of the students, says Supreme Court. Supreme Court says that the issues which have arisen must be rectified by the Centre this year itself so that it is not repeated.

Supreme Court further added that the committee constituted by the Centre also consider framing SOP for technological advancements to identify potential weaknesses in the cyber security of the examination system, processes for enhanced identity checks, CCTV monitoring of exam centres.

Earlier, on July 23, the Supreme Court refused to cancel the NEET-UG 2024 exam saying the demand for the cancellation of the exam is not justified.

The Supreme Court said it realizes that directing a fresh NEET-UG for the present year would be replete with serious consequences which will be for over 24 lakh students who appeared in this exam.

The Court expressed concerns that ordering a re-examination could have severe consequences for over 24 lakh students and disrupt the academic schedule, potentially causing long-term issues.

Notably, NEET-UG examination, conducted by NTA, is the pathway for admissions into MBBS, BDS and AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.

The NEET-UG, 2024 was held across 4,750 centres on May 5 and around 24 lakh candidates appeared in it.
