SC rejects petition seeking to declare caste system unconstitutional

PTC News Desk: The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a plea seeking to declare the caste system unconstitutional.

Dismissing the plea, Chief Justice Chandrachud said, "The Constitution as originally drafted refers to Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes. Sorry, we are not inclined. Dismissed." 

The petitioner, who filed the public interest litigation (PIL), has told the court that the caste system violates the Constitution and the right to equality.
