SC takes suo moto cognisance over rising pollution, raps Delhi govt over defied cracker ban
The apex court has directed Delhi government and Police Commissioner of Delhi to file affidavits about steps taken to enforce the ban on firecrackers in the national capital during Diwali.
The supreme court has taken suo moto cognisance of the report of rising pollution owing to firecrackers. The top court has also criticised Delhi government over the ban on crackers that was 'hardly implemented' in the national capital.
The apex court has directed Delhi government and Police Commissioner of Delhi to file affidavits about steps taken to enforce the ban on firecrackers in the national capital during Diwali.
"Delhi government and Police Commissioner shall highlight what steps they propose to take so that this thing does not happen next year," says Supreme Court.
The top court has also ordered governments of Haryana and Punjab to file affidavits indicating the number of incidents of stubble burning during the last ten days of October.
