PTC Web Desk: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, marking the leader's 149th birth anniversary. The event was part of the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations, observed annually on October 31 to honour Sardar Patel's legacy. PM Modi is currently on a two-day visit to Gujarat.
During the event, visuals captured the Prime Minister at the Unity of Parade Ground in Kevadia. He remarked, "This year, the National Unity Day coincides beautifully with Deepawali, a festival that symbolises unity."
PM Modi also addressed the government's 'One Nation, One Election' initiative, aimed at synchronising all elections in the country to occur on a single day or within a defined timeframe. This proposal, which was approved by the Cabinet earlier this year, will be presented during the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.
"We are making strides towards 'One Nation, One Election', which will enhance India's democracy and optimise the use of our resources, propelling us closer to the vision of a developed India," he stated. He further noted the movement towards 'One Nation, One Civil Code', emphasising a secular civil framework.
The Prime Minister also highlighted India's increasing global connections, referencing US President Joe Biden's Diwali celebration at the White House, which included over 600 prominent Indian Americans. "Diwali is being recognised as a national festival in several countries," he added.
In a message shared on social media platform X, PM Modi extended his warm wishes for Diwali, stating, "Many happy wishes to the countrymen on Deepawali. On this divine festival of lights, I wish everyone a healthy, happy, and prosperous life. May everyone prosper with the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha."
