PTC News Desk: Chaos broke out in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly over a motion for restoration of Article 370. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary had demanded the resolution, while Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma opposed it.
Earlier on Monday, the first session of Jammu and Kashmir's newly elected assembly began with the introduction of a resolution opposing Article 370's revocation and restoring the state's special status.
An uproar arose in the Jammu and Kashmir legislature when PDP (People's Democratic Party) leader Waheed Para, representing the Pulwama seat, proposed a resolution opposing the revocation of Article 370 and restoring Jammu and Kashmir's special status.
However, Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, remarked that the resolution was introduced solely "for the cameras" and had no real value. He also stated that if there was a serious objective behind the resolution, it should have been discussed with the National Conference.
One of the National Conference's key promises in its manifesto for the Jammu-Kashmir elections was the restoration of Article 370 and Jammu and Kashmir's statehood, as well as the implementation of the autonomy resolution.
The first session of the new assembly will end on November 8.
