Rashmika Mandanna deepfake video: Delhi Police files FIR in deepfake AI-generated video featuring actress
Video footage depicts a woman in black entering an elevator, but her face has been manipulated to resemble the actress
New Delhi, November 11: The Delhi Police has filed an FIR at the Special Cell police station regarding a deepfake AI-generated video featuring actress Rashmika Mandana. The FIR, registered under relevant sections, including IPC Sections 465 and 469, and sections 66C and 66E of the IT Act, is currently under investigation.
The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) also expressed concern over the widely circulated deepfake video and has taken suo-moto cognizance of the matter. The actress, Rashmika Mandana, has reportedly raised concerns about her image being illegally manipulated in the video.
As of now, no arrests have been made in the case. The DCW has requested a copy of the FIR, including details of the accused, by November 17. The commission emphasised the seriousness of the matter and urged prompt action and a comprehensive report on the actions taken in this regard.
Notably, the video footage depicts a woman in black entering an elevator, but her face has been manipulated to resemble the actress. The video, widely shared online, has sparked concerns about the rapid dissemination of "unreliable" information on the internet, emphasising the challenges posed by manipulated content.
The woman featured in the original video is Zara Patel, a British-Indian social media influencer with a substantial following. Uploaded by Zara Patel on October 9, the video has been subject to manipulation, seamlessly integrating the face of actress Rashmika Mandanna. The alteration is subtle, making it challenging for social media users to discern. However, upon close examination, the transition from the original woman to the 'Goodbye' actress becomes apparent when she enters the elevator.
