Actor Allu Arjun arrested: Telugu superstar Allu Arjun has been taken into custody in connection with a tragic stampede that occurred during the premiere of his film 'Pushpa 2' in Hyderabad on December 4. The incident claimed the life of a 39-year-old woman and left her son critically injured.
The Chikkadpally police, who registered the case, arrested Arjun on Friday. The police had earlier filed charges against the management of Sandhya Theatre, the actor, and his security team. Police officials stated that they were not informed beforehand about the film’s team attending the premiere, which led to chaotic scenes.
Earlier, Hyderabad's Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Zone, Akshansh Yadav, had confirmed that an FIR has been filed against actor Allu Arjun and others under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) r/w 3(5) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt) of the BNS Act. The case, registered at the Chikkadpally police station, stems from a complaint by the family of a woman who tragically lost her life during the Pushpa 2 premiere stampede.
Yadav had said stringent legal action would be taken against all those responsible for the chaotic situation inside the theatre, which led to the death and injuries.
On Friday, officials from the Hyderabad Police Commissioner’s Task Force and Chikkadpally police station arrested Arjun at his residence. The actor had earlier petitioned the Telangana High Court to have his name cleared from the FIR, but the matter is yet to be heard.
Investigations revealed that Sandhya Theatre management allegedly failed to make adequate crowd control arrangements. The police alleged that there were no separate entry or exit provisions for the actor and his team. Around 9. 30 pm, when Arjun arrived at the theatre with his personal security, the crowd surged, and his security team’s attempts to push back the public reportedly escalated the chaos.
M Revathi, the 39-year-old woman who died, had come to the premiere with her family as her son is a fan of the actor. The theatre owner and two employees have also been arrested in connection with the incident.
The actor will be produced before a magistrate later in the day.
