President Droupadi Murmu to present national teachers award 2024 today

National Teachers Award 2024: On Teachers' Day, President Droupadi Murmu will honor 50 outstanding educators from across India with the National Teachers Award 2024. The ceremony is scheduled to take place at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, beginning at 4:15 pm. Each recipient will receive a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a silver medal, and a certificate.
Purpose and Eligibility
The National Teachers Award is an annual recognition aimed at acknowledging the exceptional contributions of faculty members across various educational institutions in India, including colleges, universities, polytechnics, and higher educational institutions. The award celebrates teachers who have made significant impacts on their students' lives and contributed positively to the education system.
Selection Process
The award selection involves a comprehensive two-step process. Initially, a preliminary screening committee shortlists candidates based on their applications. This is followed by a jury committee that selects the final awardees from the shortlisted candidates.
Past Awards and Current Ceremony
In the previous year, the National Teachers Award was presented to 75 teachers. Among these, 50 were school teachers, 13 were from higher education institutions, and 12 were affiliated with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
The Ministry of Education highlighted the significance of the award in a statement on the microblogging platform X: “Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu will confer the National Awards to the Teachers on 5th September 2024 at 4:15 pm onwards, in a function to be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Each year, this prestigious award honours exceptional teachers who, through their dedication and hard work, have significantly enhanced the quality of education and enriched the lives of their students.”
