PM Modi security breach: Centre seeks report from Punjab govt over actions taken against officials

New Delhi, March 12: Centre on Sunday sought a report from the Punjab government over the action taken against officials involved in the security breach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year.

The Prime Minister was on Punjab visit on January 5, 2022, when the incident took place.

The Supreme Court had set up a committee to look into the matter. The committee found lapses in Punjab's police and administrative officers.

Based on this report, the Centre has requested a report from the Punjab Government on the actions taken against officials so far.

According to sources, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sent a letter to the Punjab government and asked for a detailed action taken report against the erring officers. 

According to reports, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla has asked Punjab Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua to submit the action taken report, which highlights the Punjab government's delay in taking action against the erring officers.

The letter was sent earlier this month, indicating that the report would be shared as soon as possible.

Following Prime Minister Modi's security breach during his visit to Punjab on January 5, the Centre is considering taking action against Punjab Police officers under the Special Protection Group (SPG) Act.
