PM Modi reacts to temple attack in Canada, hits out at Trudeau administration
PM Modi's sharp condemnation comes after a pro Khalistan mob attacked and thrashed devotees outside the temple in Brampton.
PM Modi in his first reaction over India Canada strained ties, has criticised attack on devotees at temple in Canada and issued a stern message to Trudeau government. He took to his social media and said, "I strongly condemn the deliberate attack on a Hindu temple in Canada. Equally appalling are the cowardly attempts to intimidate our diplomats. Such acts of violence will never weaken India’s resolve. We expect the Canadian government to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law.”
PM Modi's sharp condemnation comes after a pro Khalistan mob attacked and thrashed devotees outside the temple in Brampton. Earlier, Ministry of External Affairs also condemned the attack on temple and issued a stern message to Canada demanding stricter action.
“We condemn the acts of violence perpetrated by extremists and separatists at the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, Ontario yesterday," MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in an official statement.
MEA has called on Trudeau government to ensure that all places of worship are protected from such grave attacks. India has also demanded prosecution against perpetrators and expressed its concern about the safely and security of Indian nationals.
"The outreach of our consular officers to provide services to Indians and Canada citizens alike will not be deterred by intimidation, harrasment or violence," the statement added.
On Sunday, pro-Khalistan mob attacked devotees at the temple in Brampton. Videos regarding the incident shows mob thrashing people outside the temple. While reacting to the incident, prime minister Justin Trudeau said that the acts of violence at place of worship is unacceptable.
"The acts of violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton today are unacceptable. Every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely. Thank you to the Peel Regional Police for swiftly responding to protect the community and investigate this incident," Trudeau said in a post.
The High Commission to India also launched a strong protest criticising the attack.
