North India wakes up to pleasant weather, beating the summer heat
Weather Update Today: North Indians woke up to pleasant weather as rainfall graced the North India on Friday morning, offering respite from the sweltering heat.
Several parts of north India, including Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana and Delhi experienced rainfall bringing respite from the scorching heat and the temperature has also dropped by a few notches.
Monsoon to arrive in Punjab soon
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), monsoon is likely to arrive in Punjab in the first week of July
From June 24 to 29, Punjab is likely to experience an average rainfall of 10 MM of rain. In the first week of July, Punjab is likely to receive heavy rainfall with the onset of monsoon.
IMD issues warning of heavy rainfall
IMD also issued warning of heavy rainfall in several areas of North India with expected impact and recommended action.
IMD took to its official Twitter handle and posted a weather update video.
In an official statement issued by IMD states, "Isolated heavy/very rainfall very likely over Uttarakhand during 23rd-27th; Himachal Pradesh during 24th-27th; Punjab,Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Uttar Pradesh during 25th -27th June."
Meanwhile, on Wednesday and Thursday Delhi-NCR experienced heavy rainfall causing significant inconvenience. The expressway experienced severe congestion due to water accumulation, resulting in a traffic jam extending up to 5 kilometers. Commuters faced substantial delays, and public transportation services were also hindered.
