PTC News Desk: The Supreme Court on Wednesday denied bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The apex court has issued notice to CBI on Kejriwal's pleas seeking bail and challenging the Delhi High Court order upholding his arrest by the CBI in a corruption case stemming from the alleged excise policy scam.

Supreme Court has sought a response of CBI by August 23.

Delhi High Court upheld Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's arrest on August 5, ruling it legal and finding no malice in the CBI's actions.  The court remarked that the CBI showed how Kejriwal's influence may have deterred witnesses from coming forward till after his arrest.

The excise policy was revoked in 2022 after the Delhi lieutenant governor ordered a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities and corruption in the policy's formulation and implementation. The CBI and ED have argued that there were irregularities in modifying the excise policy and that licence holders received unfair advantages.
