NEET aspirant in Kota commits suicide, marking 2024's first tragedy
PTC News Desk: In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Kota, the prominent education hub, has witnessed its first student suicide of the year. The victim, identified as Mohammad Zaid, a 17 to 18-year-old from Moradabad, UP, was preparing for engineering through private coaching. This tragic incident marks the 30th student suicide in Kota for January 2024, continuing a disturbing trend from the previous year that saw 29 cases.
The unfortunate event transpired late at night in the Jawahar Nagar police station area. Zaid, a resident of a Kota hostel and an enrollee in JEE Mains coaching, was found hanging. The police responded promptly to the distress call received at 11:00 pm, transporting the body for autopsy and notifying the grieving family. Despite the investigation, no suicide note was discovered, leaving the motive behind the heartbreaking act unknown.
The city of Kota, known for its coaching institutes, grappled with 29 student suicides in 2023. This recent incident adds to the somber statistics for 2024, emphasising the pressing need for authorities to address the mental health challenges faced by students in the intense and high-pressure academic environment of coaching institutions. The educational community and local authorities must collaboratively work towards creating a supportive and conducive atmosphere for students to cope with the stresses associated with competitive exams.
