Ganesh Yadav was sleeping near Mumbai's Versova beach when he was hit and killed by a speeding SUV. The accused, Nikhil Jawale (34) and his friend Shubam Dongre (33) have been arrested, and a culpable homicide charge not amounting to murder has been filed.
The two were brought before a local court in Andheri and placed in five-day police custody for further investigation. Their blood samples were sent for testing to ascertain whether they were driving under the influence of alcohol.
The incident occurred in the early hours of August 12. Two rickshaw drivers, Ganesh Yadav and Bablu Srivastava, were reportedly resting along the beach to get away from the city's oppressive weather.
A forceful impact on Srivastava's head and hand jolted him awake, and he observed the speeding SUV run over his sleeping friend Ganesh, according to officials.
