Mumbai boat tragedy: Navy personnel among 13 killed after navy boat rammed into ferry

PTC News Desk: In a tragic boat accident that claimed lives of 13 people and injured several other, survivors have revealed chilling details. Survivors of the unfortunate accident have revealed that they were not provided with the life jacket onboard.
The boat with over 110 passengers onboard from the Gateway of India to Elephanta Island, capsized after it collided with a Navy speedboat. The accident claimed lives of at least 13 people while over 100 were rescued.
The Police have filed an FIR against the driver of the Navy speedboat based on the complaint of a survivor, Natharam Chaudhary from Mumbai's Sakinaka. The passengers have accused Navy of rechlessness as they recounted their experience.
However, the Navy said that the speedboat was a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) undergoing engine trials, and lost control due to engine malfunction.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased in the boat mishap in Mumbai on Wednesday. In a post on X, PMO India said, "The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased in the boat mishap in Mumbai. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000."
