MP's daughter drives BMW over man sleeping on pavement, granted bail

PTC News Desk: Less than a month after the Porsche accident in Pune, a high-profile individual was involved in another hit-and-run incident in Chennai where the daughter of a Rajya Sabha MP is accused of driving her BMW over a man who was sleeping on the pavement. The woman was granted bail, and the man passed away from his wounds.

Madhuri, the daughter of Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao of the YSR Congress Party, was driving the BMW on Monday night with a female companion. The 24-year-old painter Surya was reportedly slept on the pavement in Besant Nagar, Chennai, when she allegedly ran the car over him. 


According to officials, Madhuri left the scene right away, but her friend stepped out of the car and got into a fight with onlookers following the collision. After a while, she also departed. Surya was taken to the hospital by some members of the crowd, but he passed away from his wounds.

Relatives and neighbours of Surya, who had just been married for eight months, gathered at the J-5 Shastri Nagar Police Station to demand action. Upon examining the CCTV footage, the police discovered that the car was registered in Puducherry and belonged to the BMR (Beeda Masthan Rao) Group. Madhuri was taken into custody, but at the police station, she was given bail. 

In addition to being an MLA, Mr. Rao was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2022. The seafood sector is familiar with the BMR group.
