Monsoon fury in Uttarakhand: Badrinath highway blocked, vehicles buried due to falling debris

Monsoon Mayhem in Uttarakhand: Due to torrential and relentless downpour in Uttarakhand, Badrinath National Highway in Pipalkoti area has been blocked due to debris triggered by a landslide. 

Due to the falling of debris, several vehicles have also been buried under the debris leaving several tourists and locals stranded.

The Uttarakhand’s district magistrate said that at present there are vehicles buried under the debris and information has been received about one person buried under the debris in Pipalkoti.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly Speaker took stock of disaster-affected areas in Kotdwar in the State on Sunday.


IMD issues Red Alert in Uttarakhand  

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert and predicted heavy rainfall with lightning in six districts of the state for the next twenty-four hours.

It also forecast very heavy to extremely heavy rain/ thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and very intense to extremely intense spell is likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar.

 

Monsoon wreaks  havoc in Uttarakhand 

Uttarakhand rains: At least 52 people died and around 37 have been injured so far during the monsoon amid heavy rains in Uttarakhand that triggered landslides and flash floods in several places, according to official data.

On the Chief Minister's orders, the SDRF and NDRF have been deployed at the required locations. They also stated that two helicopters have been maintained on standby for disaster-stricken areas.
