Mathura cracker market fire: Two succumb to injuries in hospital, 11 still under treatment
Mathura cracker market fire: Two of the 13 people hospitalised with burn injuries from the Diwali fire in Mathura's Raya firecracker market died during treatment, police said on Tuesday.
The deceased, brothers Sushil and Thakur Das, were among 13 people who were injured in the fire and were taken to hospitals in Agra and Delhi.
The siblings hailed from Mursan in Hathras.
While Sushil died at the SN Medical College in Agra, his brother Thakur Das died at the national capital's Safdarjung Hospital.
According to police, a third brother, Anil, who was also injured in the fire, is still fighting for his life at Agra's SN Medical College.
Meanwhile, eight more people were injured in the fire that broke out at the cracker market in Gopal Bagh in Raya town on November 12 and have been referred to hospitals in Delhi for treatment. The three remaining injured have been taken to hospitals in Agra and Mathura.
On Sunday, Mathura District Magistrate (DM) Shailendra Kumar Singh told reporters that 13 people had suffered burn injuries in the incident, but the cause of the fire had not yet been determined.
Brijesh Pathak, Deputy Chief Minister, had previously stated that the cause of the fire would be investigated and those found guilty would be punished.
