PTC News Desk: A case of alleged 'love jihad' has emerged from Assam's Guwahati, where a man is accused of r@ping woman under the pretext of marriage.
The accused has been identified as Alom Ahmed and is currently under police custody.
Reportedly, Ahmed befriended the victim during the college. Over time, their friendship deepened, eventually leading to a romantic relationship. According to the victim, Ahmed promised to marry her after they became physically intimate. However, he later refused to keep his promise, resulting in a major argument between them.
Following Ahmed's refusal, the victim lodged a complaint with the police. Subsequently, Ahmed was arrested from his residence in Dhubri on Tuesday.
A case has been registered against Ahmed under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which considers it a crime to engage in sexual relations under false pretences, such as making false promises of marriage, employment, or promotion, or concealing one's true identity. If found guilty, the accused could face up to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine.
