PTC Web Desk: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its scrutiny in a corruption case associated with the Kiru Hydroelectric Power Project, targeting former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik. In a significant development, CBI officials conducted searches at 30 locations, including Malik's residences in Delhi, as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the tendering process for civil works related to the Kiru Hydroelectric Project, valued at Rs 2,200 crore.

Last month, the CBI had initiated searches at eight locations in Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the discovery of digital devices, computers, property documents, and incriminating evidence, along with a substantial amount of cash exceeding Rs 21 lakh. The case has been a focal point of the anti-corruption agency's attention, as it delves into potential misconduct in the awarding of contracts for the Kiru Hydroelectric Project.

The investigation revolves around allegations that guidelines concerning e-tendering were overlooked during the tendering process for civil works on the Kiru hydroelectric power project. Specifically, it is claimed that despite a decision being made during the 47th Board meeting of Chenab Valley Power Projects Private Limited (CVPPPL) to re-tender through e-tendering via reverse auction, following the cancellation of the ongoing tendering process, this decision was not implemented.

Furthermore, it is alleged that the decision of the 47th Board meeting was subsequently reversed in the 48th Board meeting. The case was registered based on a reference from the Jammu and Kashmir administration against the then Chairman, Managing Director, and Directors of CVPPPL, a private company, and other unknown individuals.

Satya Pal Malik, who served as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir from August 23, 2018, to October 30, 2019, has claimed that he was offered a staggering Rs 300 crore bribe in exchange for facilitating the clearance of two files, including one related to the Kiru Hydroelectric Project. The unfolding investigation raises concerns about corruption in high-profile projects and underscores the CBI's commitment to uncovering any malfeasance, even within the corridors of political power and governance.
