PTC News Desk: The main accused in the barbaric murder of Delhi Police constable Kiranpal was killed in a late-night encounter with a joint team of local police and the Special Cell in Sangam Vihar, South Delhi. The accused, Raghav alias Rocky, was fatally shot during the operation, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, police authorities revealed.

What actually happened?

The chain of events started early on November 23, when the 28-year-old was patrolling near the Arya Samaj Mandir in Govindpuri.

Kiranpal came across three drunk men while on patrol. Kiranpal was able to prevent their escape by positioning his bike in front of their vehicle and taking the keys to their scooter. However, this normal intervention became deadly when the men attacked him, stabbing him to death and leaving the scene.

Kiranpal's colleagues found him unconscious and severely injured. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead. The attackers were swiftly identified, prompting a manhunt.

Yesterday afternoon, Delhi Police and the Crime Branch hunted down two suspects, Deepak and Krish, in the Kalkaji area. Deepak tried to flee capture by firing at the police team but was hit in the leg during the encounter. He was caught with his accomplice, Krish.

This paved the way for the pursuit of Raghav alias Rocky, the third and main accused, who had escaped capture.

Late Saturday night, a joint team of Special Cell and Narcotics Cell entered Sangam Vihar. The team zeroed down on the area between Sangam Vihar and Surajkund Road.

The accused was identified and officers asked him to surrender. However, Raghav had different plans. In a frantic attempt to flee, he fired on the approaching police team with a.32-caliber pistol. Officers responded to a fire in self-defence. Raghav was injured by gunshots during the retaliatory response. Despite receiving quick medical assistance at a hospital, he died from his injuries.
