Kerala train fire accident: Man sets co-passengers on fire aboard train after argument; 3 killed
Police release sketch of suspect; terror angle also being probed
PTC Web Desk: Hours later an unidentified man poured petrol and set afire co-passengers allegedly after an argument on board the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express train near Elathur in Kozhikode district on Sunday night, three bodies, including that of an infant, were found on the a railway track near Elathur late Sunday evening. The suspect, who is yet to be identified, escaped after passengers pulled the emergency chain.
The police on Monday released a sketch of the man suspected to have set his co-passengers on fire on Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express. A suspicious bag was also found , which led to the police probing the terror angle. According to railway sources, the incident took place in D1 coach of Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express around 10 pm on April 2.
Forensic experts have reached the spot and police investigation is underway. Reportedly, there was an argument during which a man poured petrol and set on fire one of his co-passengers. Other passengers who attempted to douse the fire ended up with burn injuries. Those injured included three women. "Anilkumar from Thalasseri, his wife Sajisha, their son Advait, Ruby from Kannur and Prince from Thrissur, are among the passengers who were injured," sources said.
Special investigation team to investigate incident: Kerala DGP
Kerala DGP Anil Kant on Monday said a special investigation team would be formed to investigate the train fire incident. He said more details would be given after discussion with officials, including North zone IG.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan directed the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident and to bring all details of the crime before the law. Efforts are being made vigorously by the police to nab the assailant.
