Karnataka: 10 killed, 15 injured as truck plunges into valley; CM Siddaramaiah announces Rs 3 lakh compensation for kin

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a compensation of Rs three lakh each to the next of kin of those who died in the road accident.

PTC News Desk: At least ten people killed and 15 others injured in a fatal accident in Yellapur taluk, Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka on Wednesday morning. The tragic incident unfolded after truck collided with an unknown vehicle resulting int he deaths of ten people. 


According to reports, the victims were en route to a local fair in Yellapura when the accident occurred.


A police officer while confirming the development said that the truck that was loaded with vegetabled veered off to extreme left to pave for the vehicle which attempted to overtake. The truck then lost balance and fell into the valley due to the lack of barriers walls.


Yellapur Police Inspector Ramesh Honnapur confirmed that all the injured individuals have been admitted to the government hospital at Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hubballi.


4 killed in Raichur accident

In a similar incident in Karnataka's Raichur, four people died and 10 others were injured after a vehicle overturned at Sindhanur


Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a compensation of Rs three lakh each to the next of kin of those who died in the road accident. "The state government will provide a compensation of Rs. 3 lakh each to the families of those who died in two separate accidents that occurred in Yellapur in Uttara Kannada district and Sindhanur in Raichur district," Siddaramaiah said in a post on X.
