Kallakurichi hooch tragedy: Death toll climbs to 53, confirms Kallkurichi district collector MS Prashanth

Five ladies and 141 other patients are receiving care at several government hospitals in Salem, Villupuram, and Puducherry.

PTC News Desk: Three further people died at Karunapuram from drinking bogus alcohol, bringing the total number of fatalities in the Tamil Nadu catastrophe known as the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy to 53. Among the victims were a transgender individual and five women.

Karunapuram was the home of the majority of the victims who passed away on the transitional night between Friday and Saturday.

Nineteen people passed away at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kallakurichi, seventeen at the Government Medical College Hospital in Mohan Kumaramangalam, Salem; four at the Government Medical College Hospital in Villupuram; and three at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer), Puducherry.

Five ladies and 141 other patients are receiving care at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kallakurichi, as well as government medical colleges in Salem, Villupuram, and Jipmer.
