Amid uproar, J&K assembly passes resolution seeking restoration of special status

In the backdrop of ruckus, session was adjourned for an hour after the resolution was passed. Chaos broke out in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly over a motion for restoration of Article 370.

PTC News Desk: The Jammu and Kashmir assembly passed a resolution seeking restoration of special status of the erstwhile state. The resolution has demanded Centre to hold dialogue with elected representatives for restoration of Article 370 granting special status to the Union Territory.


With the commencement of assembly session Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary moved the resolution for restoring the special status of J-K which was revoked by the Centre on August 5, 2019. "That this legislative assembly reaffirms the importance of the special status and constitutional guarantees, which safeguarded the identity, culture, and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and expresses concern over their unilateral removal," the resolution moved by Choudhary said.

 

In the backdrop of ruckus, session was adjourned for an hour after the resolution was passed. Chaos broke out in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly over a motion for restoration of Article 370. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary had demanded the resolution, while Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma opposed it



The first session of the new assembly will conclude on November 8.
