Is Bandra a new safe heaven for attacks? Maharashtra's law and order under scrutiny
The spate of incidents have put law and order situation of Bandra under scrutiny.
PTC News Desk: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is currently out of danger after he went through surgery for stabbing wounds. Reportedly, he was stabbed six times at his Bandra residence when an intruder attacked him with knife. He sustained multiple stab wounds with 1 injury close to spine.
Several teams of Mumbai Crime Branch have been incorporated for the investigation in high-profile case.
Earlier in July last year actor Salman Khan's residence also came under attack after wo bike-borne assailants opened fire at his house. Later, the police revealed that the attackers were associated with Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
The attack prompted Salman Khan to bolster security at his Galaxy Homes apartment with bulletproof glass and electric fencing.
In a spate of incidents, former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddiqui was shot dead outside his MLA son's office in Bandra. The accused were again linked to Bishnoi gang. The spate of incidents have put law and order situation of Bandra under scrutiny.
Besides Saif Ali Khan and Salman Khan, other prominent actors who live in Bandra are Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Rekha, Zeenat Aman, Ananya Panday, Farhan Akhtar and Saira Bano.
The attempt on bollywood actor's life has also triggered a political slugfest as Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi questioned the security lapses despite being a high profile residential area. "What a shame that Mumbai sees another high profile attempt on life. The attack on Saif Ali Khan yet again raises questions on Mumbai Police & the Home Minister. This is after a series of incidents that show there is a deliberate attempt to undermine Mumbai by targeting big names," she tweeted.
NCP (SP) leader Clyde Crasto also questioned the law and order situation in Mumbai, adding that "fear of law seems to be at a low in Maharashtra due to leniencies in the past couple of years."
"Attack on Saif Ali Khan is a cause for concern because if such high profile people with levels of security can be attacked in their homes, then what could happen to common citizens? Fear of law seems to be at a low in Maharashtra due to leniencies in the past couple of years," Crasto said in a post on X.
Bollywood actor Pooja Bhatt also raised similar concerns and emphasised on increased police presence.
"Can this lawlessness please be curbed? We need more police presence in Bandra. The city and especially the queen of the suburbs, have never felt so unsafe before," she tweeted.
