Diwali 2024: Indian, Chinese troops exchange sweets on LAC after disengagement
The traditional practice comes after the completion of disengagement at two friction points in eastern Ladakh's Demchok and Depsang Plains.
PTC News Desk: In a heartwarming projection, Indian and Chinese troops exchanged sweets at several border points along the Line of Actual Control marking Diwali. The traditional practice comes after the completion of disengagement at two friction points in eastern Ladakh's Demchok and Depsang Plains. The exchange took place at five Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) points along the LAC.
Earlier on Wednesday, Army said that the disengagement at both the friction points along the LAC has been completed and that patrolling will soon begin at those points.
The disengagement is expected to thaw diplomatic as well as military Sino-Indian ties that have been strained since 2020. The development comes after slew of negotiations and dialogue evolving into finalised agreement on October 21 which aims to resolve issues stemming from the 2020 standoff.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on October 21 said in Delhi that an agreement was finalised between India and China following negotiations over the past several weeks and that it would lead to a resolution of the issues that arose in 2020. Soon after both the countries confirmed the patrolling pact.
