PTC Web Desk: Tourists planning to celebrate the New Year in Himachal Pradesh have been assured of a warm and hospitable experience, as Chief Minister Sukhwinder Sukhu has issued special directives to the state police. Addressing the media during the Winter Carnival in Shimla on Tuesday, CM Sukhu said the police should assist tourists who might overindulge in alcohol rather than taking strict actions.

The Himachal CM stressed the state’s commitment to its cultural ethos of "Atithi Devo Bhava" (Guests are like God). He instructed police personnel to ensure that tourists are safely escorted to their accommodations instead of being detained. The government has announced that hotels, dhabas, and restaurants will remain open 24/7 until January 5 to cater to the needs of visitors, even during late hours.

CM Sukhu directed the police to avoid harsh measures against tourists who might be intoxicated. Instead, they are to be treated with care and escorted safely to their hotels. "Those who come to celebrate with their families should be treated with kindness and assistance," said the Himachal CM.

Reiterating the significance of the "Atithi Devo Bhava" philosophy, CM Sukhu urged locals and officials alike to welcome tourists with warmth and foster a sense of brotherhood during the ongoing Winter Carnival, which would continue until January 2.

CM Sukhu appealed to tourists to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of the hills. He urged visitors to dispose of waste responsibly in dustbins and avoid risky behaviours such as travelling on car bonnets or hanging from doors while commuting.

To enhance the tourist experience, the government has allowed hotels, eateries, and restaurants to operate round-the-clock until January 5. This initiative aims to ensure visitors are not inconvenienced during their stay. A notification has been issued to exempt late-night establishments from any penalties during this period.
