Hemant Soren takes oath as Jharkhand Chief Minister

Hemant Soren took oath as 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on Thursday. The grand swearing-in ceremony was attended by a large number of political leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

PTC News Desk: Hemant Soren took oath as 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on Thursday. The grand swearing-in ceremony was attended by a large number of political leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. 

Soren took the oath of office and secrecy from Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar.

This is the 49-year-old JMM leader's fourth term as chief minister. Soren won his Barhait seat in the recent assembly elections, defeating BJP candidate Gamliyel Hembrom by 39,791 votes. The JMM-led alliance achieved a landslide victory, capturing 56 seats in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly, while the BJP-led NDA earned 24.

Schools in Ranchi were closed on Thursday to mark the swearing-in of the Hemant Soren government.

Other key guests at the ceremony were - NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and other key leaders like Arvind Kejriwal, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav, Mehbooba Mufti, and Tejashwi Yadav.
