Haryana Congress in-charge Deepak Babaria offers to resign after poor poll performance
Following the Haryana poll fiasco, Haryana Congress general secretary in-charge Deepak Babaria offered to resign from the Congress leadership on Monday.
PTC News Desk: Following the Haryana poll fiasco, Haryana Congress general secretary in-charge Deepak Babaria offered to resign from the Congress leadership on Monday. Notably, he offered to resign from his position while accepting moral responsibility for Haryana's election failure.
Deepak Babaria urged that the party leadership replace him and delegate duty to a new person. According to reports, Deepak Babaria told Rahul Gandhi that he would not object if someone else is appointed to lead Haryana.
The offer comes amid internal party discussions on the reasons for the devastating poll result, which dashed Congress's dreams of returning to power after a decade in opposition.
The BJP defied anti-incumbency by winning a third consecutive term in Haryana, leaving the Congress searching for reasons. The BJP's best-ever electoral triumph in the state resulted in 48 seats, 11 more than the Congress, leaving little room for the opposition to recover.
Smaller players, including the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), were crushed while the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) only managed two seats.
