PTC News Desk: Dera Sacha Sauda chief and sexual assault convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on Wednesday walked out of the Sunaria jail in Haryana's Rohtak for 20-day parole.

Singh will spend his parole period at the Dera ashram in Barnawa, Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat.

He was released on parole this morning and walked out from jail under strict security, according to an official.

The Haryana government has granted Singh a 20-day parole while prohibiting him from participating in election-related activities, making speeches, or staying in the state during that time.

Singh is serving a 20-year term for sexually assaulting two of his disciples. In 2019, the Dera chief and three others were convicted of the murder of a journalist that occurred more than 16 years earlier.

Singh received a 21-day furlough in August of this year. He was allowed three weeks of furlough beginning February 7, 2022, only two weeks before the Punjab Assembly elections.
