PTC News Desk: The principal of a government-run primary school in Gujarat's Dahod district allegedly killed a six-year-old girl student who resisted his attempt to sexually molest her, police said. He was arrested on Sunday.

According to an official, police initiated an investigation after the child's body was found within the school compound in the village of Singvad taluka on Thursday.

Govind Nat, the school principal, smothered the girl after she resisted his sexual harassment attempt, according to Superintendent of Police Rajdeepsinh Zala.

"Around 10.20 a.m. on Thursday, the principal, who was passing by in his car, agreed to take the child to school in the vehicle at her mother's request. "Students and teachers informed police that the girl did not attend school that day," Zala said.

When questioned, the principal initially claimed that he had picked her up in his car and dropped her off at school, according to the police officer. He later admitted to the police that he killed the girl, he said.

On their way to school, the principal attempted to sexually molest the girl. When she fought, he covered her mouth and nose to keep her from yelling, leaving her unconscious, the SP stated.

"The principal arrived at school and parked his car with the girl's body inside. At 5 p.m., he removed the body and dumped it behind the school. He then placed her school bag and slippers in her classroom," the official added.

Technical analysis and the time he left the school in the evening made him the primary suspect, and he admitted to the crime following questioning. A day after the girl's body was discovered, a post-mortem investigation confirmed that she died of suffocation.
